According to its inventor, zFone isn’t itself a VoIP client. "It's like a plug-in," he says. "You can use any VoIP client you want, and this thing sits in the IP stack and watches for VoIP packets, intercepts them, and encrypts them on the fly." AOL, Google, Microsoft, and Yahoo are among the providers of VoIP clients.

Ipoque has released an add-on filter for their PRX Traffic Manager PRX - 250. According to the Leipzig-based outfit, Skype poses a number of security problems for networks.

These range from published vulnerabilities that opened networks to security risks, the consumption of bandwidth, and the fact that the current client used strong encryption – an information and regulatory risk in certain environments.
